reg-1277765427-155564This new line of over the door shoe organizers packs a punch both in capacity and style! Why settle for the same old boring shoe organizer when you can have one that adds style and a punch of color to your home décor! These shoe racks come in a variety of patterns, colors and sizes, something for everyone. The brightest colored ones come in pinks, lime greens and yellows, with really fun patterns to match. These are suitable for kids and teens, giving them inspiration in the form of fashion to organize their closets (and keep them that way once and for all!) College age kids and adults may choose one of the more subdued models, such as the Red and white swirls or the ultra modern dots fabric. Each of these over the door shoe racks has an eco friendly cotton backing, and pvc pockets. The pockets are clear which has many benefits. First, it allows you to see what’s inside the pockets, making these shoe racks useful for more things than just footwear - keep jewelry, scarves, accessories and toys organized in the Original Stash 20 Pocket Organizer. Second, it allows you to see through to the vibrant colors and patterns that are just what you need to add a little pizzazz to your closet or bedroom. The benefits of Over the Door storage racks can not be overstated. Utilizing the back of any door to add storage and organization to your home is one of the easiest things you can do. The hooks simply hang over the top of the door, no screws, nails, glue or drilling to mount - great for renters, dorm and studio dwellers. These colorful closet organizers will make a great back to school gift for those going off to college at the end of this summer! And best of all, they are very affordable for even those on a tight budget.

modular-shoe-rackImagine, an all in one closet organizer that includes a shoe rack – well that’s just what I’ve found!  The complete closet hanging organizer system is a modular system that allows you to pick and choose the pieces that you want to get your closet organized once and for all.  Each piece hangs over the closet rod which is one of the best ways to make space-conscious use of your closet.  Often times, a closet will have short skirts and shirts hanging from the top bar, with one hundred percent wasted space underneath it.  The best way to make the most of your closet space is by taking advantage of every inch of vertical space, and hanging shoe organizers help you to do this.  This closet organizer is the typical canvas style with shelves and cubbies of varying sizes, with one twist.  You get to choose the pieces to organize your shoes and clothes, and then snap them together for a sturdy closet organizer!  The shoe hanging shelf has five shelves, just enough space for five or more pairs of shoes.  Athletic shoes require more space, but this organizer is great for sandals and dress shoes, each shelf holding a pair.  Two other components to this system, one with five shelves and one with four, can be used for sweaters, clothes and purses, but also for large men’s shoes and women’s running and athletic shoes.  If you have a few feet of hanging space in your closet, line up a few of these organizers to create an entire custom shoe rack for a fraction of the cost! In addition to the shelves, an expanding rod can be hung from your existing closet rod to maximize storage.   They are affordable, stylish, and when you are finished with them, they can be repurposed for something else around the house. Enjoy!

sandal-rackThis week’s shoe organizer is a new item, designed just for sandals, my personal favorite footwear!

March is the official start of flip flop season where I live, so imagine how excited I was to see this new over the door shoe rack that is designed just for sandals!  We all know that thong sandals are very inexpensive, and therefore it is perfectly legitimate that you have to have one in every color, shape, form and style.  This over the door shoe rack is from the Jokari bamboo accents collection.  Bamboo is an eco-friendly renewable resource so that makes this an environmentally friendly shopping choice.  Simply use the included elastic straps to tie this shoe rack to the back of any door, and you can instantly have easy access to all of your sandals throughout the season.  You can fit up to ten pairs on this rack, and it is really easy to use.  All you have to do is slide a pair of shoes under each of the elastic straps for an instant closet makeover.  Got more than 10 pairs?  These shoe racks are narrow enough that you can put two side by side to hold up to 20 pairs of either dressy or casual sandals. And at ten bucks a piece, they are definitely budget friendly.   If you don’t have quite that many pairs of sandals, you will find that many other items can be stored in there as well, scarves for example.  So don’t resist buying sandals this year just for lack of storage space, this over the door sandal rack has finally solved that problem for you.  Of course, if you are resisting buying shoes for financial reasons, that’s another story.  But either way, you can enjoy the benefits of this affordable shoe storage rack in your home.

Being environmentally friendly is in.  Here’s one way you can do your part in your closet!  Read on…

I’ve blogged before about eco friendly shoes, and what you can do with old shoes to help the environment instead of harming it, and now I’m going to take it a step further.  If you are in the market for a new shoe organizer, and you like to shop green, an environmentally shoe rack may be the right choice for you!  There are many different ways you can go with this.  One way is to buy a product that is chemical free, like a cedar shoe rack that is left unfinished.  Just make sure first that it is made of a replenish type of cedar, like a farmed red cedar.  Another way is to use something you already have around the home, or search ebay or craigslist for something used.  Better yet, get yourself to the goodwill or Salvation Army for a pre-used shoe rack.   If you really want to buy one, though, this environmentally friendly shoe rack gets two green thumbs up from me.  This shoe organizer is made of 70% recycled plastic bottles, a fine way to make good use of wasted materials, turning them into something nice and new so that consumers have a choice of buying green planet friendly products.  This shoe rack has 20 pockets, for holding ten pairs of shoes, but is also great for organizing socks, scarves, and other accessories.  Best of all, it hangs over the door, one of the most space-efficient shoe storage options on the market, and requires no assembly or drilling.  Use it in the hall closet as the family shoe rack, in the kids room for small toys and stuffed animals, or in your own closet for easy access to your most used shoes!

Get your tiny shoes in order with this Aquarium Shoe Rack!

It’s been a long time since we’ve featured a kids shoe rack, so I was so happy when I stumbled upon this one!  It straps right over the closet rod, using up virtually no closet space, but offering ample shoe storage options.  The cotton polyester blend fabric stands up to medium and heavy use, perfect for little ones.  Strap it over the closet rod and organize away!  The pockets are perfect for storing shoes, but can also be used for other items.  Even little kids and toddlers can use this to keep their bedroom or playroom organized, with separate pockets for toys, clothes and shoes.  The pattern is absolutely adorable, a vibrant aquarium scene complete with fishies.  Over the closet rod shoe racks are a great choice for homes with limited storage.  They make use of the vertical space in the closet, which is usually overlooked by people in need of more closet space.  This one is perfect for kids, the colors and themes will inspire them to put their shoes or toys away.  Another feature I like about these, as a general rule, in the kids room, is that it allows you to have storage space up top where little hands can not reach.  Keep markers and paints (nothing dangerous like medicines, though) in the upper pockets to keep tiny hands from reaching!  The velcro is very strong and wide, perfect for bearing the weight of multiple pairs of shoes, toys and much more!  An easy way to keep things organized in this bag is to make tags for each shelf so that you and the kids know what goes where - a great closet organization tip!  When the kids grow out of their sea-creature phase, they can still use this in the corner of the closet to maintain their style.  And, best of all, the price is right!

Shoe Racks on the Go!

Since I’ve had so many comments lately asking whether a shoe rack is portable or not, I decided to explore this idea of a portable shoe rack.  First, some reasons that you would need a portable shoe rack and, second, what type to look for!

Many of you may be asking, why on earth would you need a portable shoe rack?  If you are asking this, you obviously have never traveled with me.  I know that traveling is a lot easier if you can keep the amount of stuff you bring to a minimum.  But, I just can’t ever decide ahead of time what I’m going to need.  So I usually pack up about one pair for each day I’ll be gone and stuff them around my clothes in a bag.  I know it seems excessive, but this is the only way I can be sure that I will have the right shoes at the right time.  There is a tradeoff, though – I usually end up skimping in the clothes department.

Another reason someone might want to have a portable shoe rack is if they sell, make or decorate shoes, then they may need to take a rack with them to shows.

What kinds of racks can be considered “Portable”?

  • Rolling Shoe Racks – Technically these are portable, but only from room to room.  You can’t take these in the car or (worse) a plane, and expect your shoes to stay on the rack.
  • Plastic Bin – These are very portable but they don’t really keep your shoes organized, just in one big pile, so I don’t think they count as a rack in this scenario.
  • portable-shoe-rackOTD Shoe Rack – This is by far the best option.  You can put your shoes in them and then roll them up and throw it in your suitcase. When you get to the hotel, unroll it, hang it over the nearest door and voila!  you have your travel shoe organizer!

over-the-rod-shoeFind More Shoe Storage Space in the Closet!

If you can find just five inches of hanging space (that’s right, just 5 inches), then you have great potential for getting a little extra shoe storage in your closet!  An over the rod shoe rack is, in some ways, even easier to use than a freestanding shoe rack.  This is because many of the shoes are at eye level or just below, making it a cinch to find the pair that you are looking for.

Another benefit of these shoe organizers is that, as long as you don’t completely overload them, you won’t have shoes falling on the floor – a common problem with bar style shoe racks.  They come in all different sizes, the smallest ones being 5 inches wide, and the larger ones at 12 inches.

The 5 and 6 inch Hanging Shoe Racks have a great space efficient design, because they make use of vertical space, which is often wasted in most closets.  When you hang your clothes on a closet rod six feet off the ground and don’t put anything underneath it; that is a no-no in the organizing world.  An over the closet rod shoe bag solves this problem by really only taking a few inches of space that you were likely to be wasting anyway.

If you choose one of the wider racks that are up to 12 inches wide, you can greatly increase your storage potential for shoes and other things too.  These wider over the rod shelves can hold accessories, including scarves, belts, and small purses, making them an all in one closet organizer.  Stacks & Stacks has a great selection, with everything from basic canvas organizers to cedar lined models.  If you want something with a little more pizzazz, the striped shoe organizers are very cute, and come in blue or pink tones.

Over the Door Shoe Racks are Space Efficient and Easy to Use

For the most space efficient Shoe Storage, an Over the Door Shoe Rack is pretty hard to beat! There are many different styles out there, from plain canvas to white mesh materials, and many more I’m sure. I have chosen this one because it is really cute and colorful. Unlike traditional shoe racks, it is designed to appeal to teenagers, but I honestly could see myself using it – the stripes and the colors that are used are fun and flirty, great for girls of any age, I think!

This OTD shoe rack is shorter than some, but if all you need is a few pockets for shoes that you access regularly, this is great. Everyone has a door, and therefore everyone can probably use an over the door rack. They mount over the door without using screws or nails, so you can be sure you are not doing damage to your walls. This is a great benefit for kids going off to the dorms, or for anyone who rents their home instead of owning.

Actually, these over the door shoe racks are great for organizing other things too. Use them to hold scarves, belts and accessories. They can act as a very large mail and bill sorter – you can use safety pins to label each pocket so you won’t be tempted to dump mail on the counter when it comes in. In the laundry room, these organizers can hold anything from small bottles of detergent, fabric softener and stain sprays to small tools for everyday home improvement projects.

I love these organizers for pretty much every room of the home, (can you tell yet)? The possibilities are endless here, have fun with this OTD Rack!

Bonus: It says “My Stuff” and it’s very affordable!

From O-T-D Shoe Rack to Toy Storage Rack

You are now looking at my absolute favorite shoe rack ever.  These over the door shoe racks are easy to find and can be used for pretty much everything.  I have two of them in my house right now, and have had them for years.  The first one I use in downstairs in the coat closet for shoes.

The second one pays its way as the best toy organizer I have ever found.  It hangs on the back of the kids’ door!  Here is how to get the most out of your organizer:

As an Over the Door Toy Organizer:

In the kids room, an over the door shoe rack is great for toys.  Kids need a toy storage solution that is simple enough for them to use.  This organizer is almost as easy as throwing their toys into a bin, but since they are hidden behind the door you don’t have to worry about looking at them spilling out of a basket.  The pockets aren’t big enough for large toys, obviously, but they are great for small items (think My Little Pony and all her little accessories).

If you are overrun with stuffed animals, you can easily put the smaller ones in here.  As you can see in the picture, the OTD shoe rack that I have has 24 sections.  If you look more closely, though, you will see that each large pocket actually has another small pocket attached to the front of it, making it a 48 pocket organizer.  Here is another similar one with 24 larger pockets.

Another benefit to these over the door racks is that you can use them for years – you will never NOT have a use for them.  Once kids get older, they can organize their own shoes, socks, hair clips and more in here.  And, when they move out of the house, they can either take it with them to the dorms, or leave it for you.

Some other uses for these multi-purpose racks:

Bathroom:  For toiletries, hair accessories, shaving tools

Garage:  For Lightweight tools, hardware and cleaners

Closet:  Shoes, Scarves, Belts, Socks and Accessories
